Food Waste Hack: You Need To Make This Coffee Body Scrub

Spread the love

I’m just a simple gal who likes skincare and the environment, but one thing I absolutely hate is food waste. A shocking 39% of all food waste comes from homes so we have to step it up and do better. There are plenty of ways we can reduce and repurpose food waste! Here is part one of my food waste hack series where I find easy solutions to our food waste problem and share them with you. Cue my recipe for this coffee body scrub!

This recipe helps reduce food waste by repurposing something that typically gets thrown away: coffee grounds! This coffee body scrub is leagues above store-bought counterparts because it reduces food waste, saves you money, and is amazing for your skin. You get a cup of coffee and a nice body scrub in one! Not only that, but coffee is a fantastic skincare ingredient because it’s rich in antioxidants and stimulates blood flow. Plus, with nourishing oils, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial ingredients this coffee body scrub will have your skin glowing

For this coffee body scrub you'll need:

  • Coffee grounds – You can use whatever grind size you want, but I typically use a medium grind. Also, make sure you use dry coffee grounds for this recipe! I just stick my used grounds in a bowl and set it out in the sun until it’s dried out.
  • Sweet almond oil – A nutrient-dense oil that’s perfect for any skin type. It’s especially great for this body scrub because it works well with the coffee to brighten skin tone and even texture.
  • Jojoba oil – I like adding this because I have dry skin but you can double up on the sweet almond oil if you don’t want to add another oil.
  • Salt – An anti-inflammatory ingredient that’s also great for unclogging pores, making it the perfect addition to this skin-loving body scrub.
  • Brown sugar – Balances the grittiness from the salt, if you don’t have sensitive skin you can double up on the salt instead of adding brown sugar.
  • Cinnamon – Amazing for circulation and has antibacterial properties.

Notes:

  • It’s best to keep this scrub in an airtight jar if you plan on leaving it in your shower. This will prevent your scrub from getting water-logged!
  • Make sure to use a drain catcher while using this to prevent damage to your shower drains.
