Why Vegan?
Way before this platform was even a thought, back when I went vegan a decade ago, I had to justify my decision to eliminate animal foods. Now, no longer feeling the need to justify myself, I do still want to inform.
So, why vegan? Simply put, this diet – or rather lifestyle – is one of the best ways individuals can decrease their environmental footprints. The issue is of course multifaceted, with ethics coming into play many times throughout the conversation, but the fact is that a vegan diet is a huge positive for the planet.
Agriculture, specifically animal agriculture, is not only resource-intensive but also has trickle-down effects on the entire environment. Plus, with food scarcity issues only becoming more pressing, we need to have real discussions about how to use resources most effectively.
We can’t afford to be blind to these issues.
Eating less meat is an amazing way individuals can be part of the solution to our wasteful industry practices. After all, generational equity can only be secured if we sustainably manage our resources.
Despite there being so much stigma around what diet is best, my main goal is to just show easy, fun, delicious ways to enjoy more plant-based foods. Every recipe I post and all the food I make is vegan because that’s one way I can align my values with my actions. Sure, I’m a little crunchy, but once you try some vegan recipes, you’ll find that there’s more to vegan cooking than just being rabbit food!
There are so many food options available, so why not diversify? You don’t have to go vegan and I’m not trying to force you to either. However, choosing more vegan and plant-based options is less resource-intensive than meat-focused options. Plain and simple, the food we eat matters.
